It's time to worry again about triglycerides - a type of bloodfat that can promote heart disease in some people. So says a groupof physicians headed by Dr. Antonio M. Gotto Jr. of the BaylorCollege of Medicine, Houston.
In recent years, cardiologists have ignored triglycerides,believing them to be relatively unimportant in boosting the risk ofheart disease. But new evidence shows that high triglycerides mayhelp bring on heart disease even if you have low blood cholesterol.Especially hazardous is the combination of high triglycerides and lowgood-type HDL cholesterol, Gotto warns.
