Small businesses can breathe more easily today with changes to the GST reporting system
allowing them to skip the next quarterly tax return if they want to.

The government's overhaul of the Business Activity Statement will give businesses the
option of filing a full GST return only once a year, although they will still have to
make quarterly payments.

Treasurer PETER COSTELLO has assured businesses they can stick with the current system
if they want to.
