German man dies in accident on Sicily's Mount Etna

Italian rescuers say a German man was found dead on Sicily's Mount Etna, three days after he went missing.

Franco Ferranti of the local rescue service says 32-year-old Thomas Reichart, a photographer from Sindelfingen, near Stuttgart, is believed to have died from injuries after he slipped on ice and hit rocks.

Ferranti says the body was found early Tuesday at an altitude of about 2,780 meters (9,000 feet) on the eastern side of Mount Etna, Europe's biggest and most active volcano.

He says Reichart, who had been taking photographs on the mountain on Saturday, sent a text message to a German friend in Sicily asking for help.
